Family Death Benefit

The Plan provides a monthly allowance for each of your surviving children if the following conditions are met:

  • The child is your natural or legally adopted child; and
  • The child is under age 18 and unmarried; or
  • The child is disabled and over age 18 (only if the Disability occurred before age 18) and unmarried.

To be eligible for the Family Death Benefit allowance after retirement, you must be receiving a monthly retirement allowance from the Plan, and you had at least 5 years of Department Service with the Plan at the time of your retirement.
